Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Lovato faced challenges coming to terms with her identity. She recalled dealing with “a lot of religious shame” in addition to the difficulties of growing up queer in an absolutely conservative environment.

“Being a queer kid in Texas, I longed for people around me who made me feel safe to be myself,” she said. “Now, I get to go out, live authentically, and it feels amazing.”

Lovato’s personal life is also a source of happiness and inspiration. She recently married musician Jutes, and the couple’s relationship is reflected in the positivity she brings to her music.

Lovato loves how her songs resonate with LGBTQ+ fans. She recalled performing her track ‘Kiss’ at a queer party and being thrilled by the crowd’s reaction. “It went really great. I’m so happy with how everyone loved it,” she said.

Her upcoming album, ‘It’s Not That Deep’, reflects a lighter, more joyful phase of her life. “I’m in a place where my energy feels very light. I just got married. The tone of my life is lighter. I wanted a project that reflected that,” Lovato told the magazine.
